Givenchy Antigona Bag Review

Posted in Bags, Givenchy

Tell us if it sounds familiar; ‘Antigona’- means unbending, it’s inspired by the Greek mythology and came from the word ‘Antigone’. Antigone was a feminine figure with a very strong and effective personality. Don’t you get the wind of the iconic bag from Givenchy whose name is enlivened by the above concept that matches with the idea. Remember the bag that sits next to the ever-popular and ever-classic Nightingale bag, paving its way to become the next icon of the house. It’s the Givenchy Antigona bag that we are so excitedly talking about!

Let’s rewind; the story of Antigona started with an innovative idea of the creative director Riccardo Tisci. He had a strange love for masculine and feminine contrast in his designs. And now, the same thought is reflected in the Antigona bags as well, which were introduced in Fall 2010.

Since the moment it hit the runway, the bag was destined to become the next IT bag. Antigona attracted a lot of crowd attention and it was a rare bag which never really got changed entirely besides some minor updates.

Design

Its synonymous with the Boston bag, if you are going to consider its boxy construction, nice curves and geometric shape. But with some sharp detailing inspired by military; exposed stitching, one-off metal hooks, Givenchy signature lettering, a leather triangular patch with logo details and a large modish zipper. One look at this Givenchy says it all; the perfect blend of femininity and masculine design, a sibling of Louis Vuitton Speedy but with more bold character, a sculpted sharp silhouette, a glossy style reflecting the Givenchy sleek aesthetic and not to forget the result of a smart versus gothic detailing.

Furthermore, the classic look is defined by geometric lines, double rolled handles, structured shoulder straps (adjustable and detachable) and off course the Givenchy’s impeccable leather. We couldn’t help but muse on the Antigona bag’s hidden beauty that is reflected stunningly by its leather, geometrical shape and the various angles of its pattern. At times, when the natural light catches the combo of these three we are blessed by an enchanting view.

Your closet is in desperate need of some exotic leathers and here are these, in your beloved Givenchy Antigona bag. Through all these years there are the varieties of leathers in this particular pattern and not just some basic leather like calfskin and goatskin. Givenchy is much more advanced in its seasonal (nubuck suede and rubberized canvas) and luxury (ostrich, anaconda, python and crocodile) department.

You know what’s the most pie-in-the-sky task for you? It’s to choose the right size. Initially when this bag was launched, there were only two sizes to choose from, later on a large size was also introduced as a result of demand for bigger sizes. Also, a new mini size was also showcased in Summer 2014 collection. But, despite of so many options the medium and small are the best choices. The glimpse of its interior and the weight of the size also tells about which size to choose. If you carry a lot, then the medium size is the best option but if you are not very tall then don’t go for this size.

Interior

Kindness is contagious, people; you would feel this if you had the pleasure to open this Givenchy Antigona bag. The interior has a cotton canvas lining which is so damn easy to clean, just pull it out and shake the particles out. For organizing your stuff you are blessed with a large interior compartment that can store a lot of items, two internal pockets and one zipped pocket.

And also, you are about to get spoiled by the two side wings or shall we say expandable wings that gives you extra space to store even bigger items. Like what about your laptop and paper documents!
